Sarah + Leah: SaltyGirl Beauty

In 2015, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, at 36 years old and 32 weeks pregnant. When something like this happens, it turns your world upside down. During this time, she and her sister Leah, who is an oncology nurse, started diving into the food they ate and the products they put on their bodies. Our skin is our largest organ, and everything we put onto our bodies gets absorbed into our blood stream and organs, so Leah and Sarah became incredibly passionate about doing the research and understanding the ingredients our bodies consume daily.

While going through chemo, Sarah lost all of her hair. When this happened, she felt like she lost something that made her feel beautiful and confident. As a way to endure this emotional hardship on top of her physical one, she discovered the power that beautiful scarves and lipsticks have in helping her rediscover her groove, confidence and salty-ness. Thus, the idea of SaltyGirl Beauty was born. Sarah and Leah wished there was a beauty brand that focused on organic, nourishing ingredients, but also stood for something bigger than beauty! So, using their own experiences as their guide, their goal for SaltyGirl Beauty is to create a brand that speaks to all women, no matter their backgrounds or lived experiences. Sarah and Leah believe that beauty is something that comes from within, and just want to enhance that beauty with some awesome makeup and self-care products!

Sarah - Co-founder and Captain of the SaltyGirls

Equipped with a MBA from Simmons College in Marketing and Sustainability, Sarah has 20 years experience working in and building marketing/sales organizations but had always dreamed of creating her very own beauty brand. It wasn't until after her breast cancer diagnosis that she was able to really focus on making that dream a reality, creating SaltyGirl Beauty, a mission driven, sustainable brand. Along with sister, Leah Robert, they found that their entrepreneurial and results driven backgrounds provided the perfect foundation for what you see at SaltyGirl Beauty today.

Leah - Co-founder and Charitable Director

For over 12 years, Leah Robert has treated cancer patients as an Oncology Nurse. She found out being an oncology nurse was truly her calling when her sister Sarah Kelly was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She currently works at New England Cancer Specialists full-time as a nurse and educator for cancer patients in southern Maine. Health and wellness have always been important in her life. During her sister’s cancer journey, they both went through a deep cleaning exercise of getting rid of harmful, unhealthy products... and so SaltyGirl Beauty was born. In addition to their beauty brand, the sisters have created Foundation4Love, a local charitable organization that Leah works closely with in the Maine Cancer Community.

"Being active, independent and confident has something I have always prided myself in. When I have a balance of these three things, I am a better person, mom and wife, the last two being roles that are a priority in my life."
